I want the PC to be future proof! If it means increasing my budget a little I'm ready for it! So don't you guys think Quad processors are better than E8400?

my dear friend nothing is future proof....anything is good for 1 and half years which u buy now...because computer hardware market change rather unexpectedly when new and better products comes ...
3 months ago i though getting 8800gt will make me future proof and today i stand ...with HD4850 which is about 30% faster than 8800gt ....
so buy the system that it will be good enough for 2 years ...and thats the maximum limit of saying future proof in computer hardware!

whats 9600gtx ..?? as far as i know nvidia has 9800gtx and they will cost u more than 15k ..as its old model ....now coming to nvidia's new offering 9800gtx+ which is supposed to compete with HD4850 (which beats 9800gtx cards by fair margin)...costs minimum 12.5k ...and that too if u get that prices...at the place where u live ...which in all certainity will be difficult to get.
now HD4850 performs almost equally to 9800gtx+ but costs 2k less ...u should be able to get it for 10.5k now ....which makes the card value for money ...so i would go for HD4850 anyday....

Checked all the scores... the 8800 Ultra beats the Radeon HD4850 in all the tests!!!
I live in Pune, and i went to many shops today to get the price listings. But unfortunately was very disappointed in what i got in response. All the shop keepers said no biostar, no abit and no msi mobo available in Pune. Only Intel original or Asus mobos. Moreover they quoted the price of HD4850 512MB at Rs. 14,300 and 1GB at Rs. 17,100. They have never heard of Corsair PSU. What do i do now?

Re: PC Upgrade Step By Step....
Please suggest me with a good Asus mobo alternative for E8400. Coz i just cant find a shop that sells ABIT, MSI or Biostar mobo. They all sell only Asus and Intel original motherboards. So i have to go for Asus.

u are confused about 8800 ultra here..... its the highest end model of 8800 series and when it was launched in India last year,june 2007 it was for 45k......its not 8800 GT which was stripped down version.....moreover its not even available in market even if it had been it would cost about 30 k there were two more versions for 8800 series called 8800 GTX 768 Mb DDR3 which will cost u 34k today...and another one 8800gts 640 which will cost u 26 k today....they are different from 8800 gt which cost 9k these days ....so they are all different model here 8800 ultra,8800gtx,8800gts and 8800 gt ....and leaving 8800 gt all were high ends and were very costly ....
now coming to what u saw in scores ...
first thing understand that performance means high frame rates @ high resolution with AA/AF on.we will choose 1920x1200 with AA/AF on ...
1. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...0,1957-12.html
COD4 1920x1200 (AA/AF on)
GF8800 ultra -39.7
HD4850-47
difference = +7.3(18.38% inc) for hd4850
2. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...0,1957-13.html
test drive (1920x1200 with AA/AF on)
GF8800 ultra -42.2
HD4850-53.3
difference = + 10 (23.6% inc ) for hd4850.
3. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...0,1957-14.html
crysis(1920x1200 with AA/AF on)''
GF8800 ultra-18.4
HD4850-20.9
difference = +2.5 (13.5% inc) for HD4850
4. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...0,1957-15.html
world in conflict (1920x1200 with AA/AF on)
GF8800 ultra -24.1
HD4850-26.3
difference = +2.2 (9.1% inc) for HD4850
5. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...0,1957-16.html
supreme commander (1920x1200 with AA/AF on)
GF8800 ultra -53.7
HD4850-59.1
difference = +5.4 (10 % inc) for HD4850
6. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...0,1957-17.html
unreal tournament III (1920x1200 with AA/AF on)
GF8800 Ultra -47.5
HD4850-40.5
difference= -7 ( 17% dec) for HD4850
7. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...0,1957-18.html
GF8800Ultra - 32.5
HD4850-23.6
difference = -8.9 (27.3% dec ) for HD4850
i hope u see them again ...in most of the games HD4850 (a 10k ) card outperforms a 8800 Ultra ( which is discontinued and if available will cost about 30 k) ....i hope u get the point its all about value for money ..(VFM)...a 10k card performs as good as a 13k (9800gtx+) or any of 8800 series card)
u are confusing 8800 Ultra with 8800 GT ..8800Ultra was 20-25% faster then 8800 gt....so please don't make judgment rashly ...go around see more reviews and read them rather just seeing the graph and u will know more ....

now thats what i would call welcome to reality ....thats the case of all the big cities in India u will not get any good graphics card.or good components if u look around in ur city ...best thing is to buy it from mumbai as its very close by.....if u go to mumbai u can easily get HD 4850 for 10.5k ...i don't know how u will travel ..but considering u go by train..it will be cheaper for u than buying in ur place ...or better buy it from a online shop ...

Re: PC Upgrade Step By Step....
I went to a shop today and these were the prices they quoted.... I think the prices are a bit high though.... What do you think guys???
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 - Rs. 8300.
MSI P45 Neo - F Motherboard - Rs. 6750.
Transcend 2GB 800 MHz RAM - Rs. 1850.
500 GB SATA-II Hard Disk - Rs. 3450.
Palit ATI Radeon HD4850 (512MB) - Rs. 10750.
They couldn't quote the price of the 1GB card!!
And the worst of the lot was no Cooler Master or Corsair PSU. No Cooler Master Cabinet!!!!
They were saying that they have a very good brand called VIP!!!
Heard the name for the first time.
A 600W PSU of VIP costs Rs. 3000!!!!
What crap!!!!
Do you think the prices would be less than this in Mumbai????
