Default Networking issues

Hi I recently purchased a new HP 8 port switch. Currently I have connected the switch to my desktop and (TV) IPTV. They work perfectly fine. My problem is that I am not able to use my laptop and desktop simultaneously. I get an "IP conflict error". I need help from the networking gurus as to what has to be done. I have windows xp SP3 on my desk top and windows xp SP2 on my laptop. Please help.

Ip conflict...maybe laptop and desktop are having the same IP address?

or if you have set it to auto DHCP..then set the IP manually across all network devices

start-->> control panel -->> Network connections -->> right click on LAN -->> Properties -->> TCP/IP -->> properties -->> Assign specific and different address in both system.
