Default Need help selecting a computing solution!

i am a student of IT and i will be needing a computing solution in next sem for the following needs :

1) giving presentations
2) taking notes
3) learn programming
3) browsing the internet
4) testing various linux distros.
5) lots of music, movies, and some(limited)multiplayer games like CS, UT, etc .

i have thought about the following solutions to my problem:

1)-------------------------1 Laptop----------------------------------|

can you suggest me a laptop which gives best bang for the buck and satisfies all these needs? here are my considerations..

1) NO VISTA NO WINDOWS!! (freedos or any linux distro) if i get a windows laptop, the very first thing i will do is removing windows, so why would i pay for it? i dont need it, i wont use it, and i wont pay for it just because m$ has a monopoly.
2) about 1-2 Gb memory , 15 inch screen , good audio and wireless. the onboard graphics should be compatible with linux and compiz fusion (Intel / nvidia).
3) around 30000 rupees ..

i will be running linux mint on this thing.. i think the dell inspirion 1525 is a good option , but the linux version of it is not available in india at this moment. i dont want to pay for vista when i wont be using it. do you know when will dell inspirion 1525n (ubuntu version) will be available in india? and how much lesser will it be costing?

2)------------------------ 1 Desktop and 1 netbook---------------------------

or i can can assemble a cheap desktop for my movie/music/game/programming/linux tinkering needs, with about 1 GB RAM/ and priced around 15000 rupees(including LCD). i will run arch linux on this baby.

and one good cheap netbook which will help with my presentation/notes taking. priced around 20-25k or cheaper. should have atleast 1 GB memory/ i dont care about the hard disk. , 10-12 inch screen etc etc.. NO WINDOWS PLEASE! .. when will the ubuntu netbook remix come out? i will love to have that on this baby.

----------------------------------------------------------------

do you have any better suggestions for me? should i go with 1 laptop? then which one? should i wait for dell 1525n?

if i should go for 1 pc and 1 netbook then which netbook should i get? i dont need windows. should i wait for ubuntu netbook remix?

bump..

first option is ur best bet .... and well, u answered ur own query ..... Inspiron 1525 is the best option and u can easily run Ubuntu on this thing(atleast my frnd runs Ubuntu 8.04 on his, which came with Vista pre..... but he removed it) ,u just need some tutorials which are VERY easily ava. on net .

Go for it.

no for inspiron, better would be a compaq. You can get it without vista and better config than inspiron. There are many good compaq models. And they mostly have lesser problems than pavallion models.
Check price and config from HP site and decide. The site has been updated, and hence you would not get most of the shown models currently I think and would come up in local market in a month or so.
