Exclamation Distinctive Request with Eccentric Constraints

I've the following config:
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 1.86 GHz (Is it a 64-bit proccy?)
MoBo: Asus P5LD2VM SE (945Chipset)
RAM: 2x1GB DDR2 667MHz Kingston
GPU: Asus EN7600GT 256MB DDR3
HDD: Seagate 400GB+160GB
PSU: Frontech 350W
Now I'll be buying my first laptop in December and also saving up money for future upgrade of the Desktop. I want to now that is ATi 3870 and 3850 backward compatible with PCie 1.0 standard like Nvidia 8800GT? I want to upgrade my GPU and PSU accordingly so that I can delay my upgrade for at least a year or so, so that I can get newer peripherals like Nehlam Processor,DDR3 RAM etc at more affordable price. In case of PSU I want one that can support SLi or CrossfireX as I won't be upgrading PSU when overhauling the whole system. If such PSU will dent my budget then please tell me one that is cheap but reliable and can suffice the to-be-upgraded GPU's power needs efficiently. My budget is 15K and can stretch it to 20K Max. I use my PC as a download machine so the current config hasn't ticked of the electricity meter. Tell me both the Nvidia and ATi's offering in this price range and please do keep in mind that it should be backward compatible with PCIe 1.0 standards. BTW I'll be buying from Nehru Place so any advice on "Which Shop to Buy from" would also be more than welcomed.

well PCie 2 is supposed to be backward compatible with PCie 1.1/1,so ya you wont have a problem that said why you want to go for a dual gfx solution rather than a single high end gfx?

Because my MoBo is not SLi otherwise I wouldn't even blink b4 putting another 7600GT in PCIe slot as this one alone has allowed me to play all the games even Crysis and Assassin's Creed at the res. of 1360x768 at Mid-Settings. I love my current GPU.

Thumbs up Re: Distinctive Request with Eccentric Constraints

The PSU, I inquired costs, Rs. 7,966/- at Lynx India. Its in Chandigarh which is nearest to my hometown so would skip my trip to Delhi if get the GPU too from there. At IT Depot the same PSU was quoted for Rs.8,580/- excluding Shipping Charges.
Now for the GPU I'm confused between 8800GT and HD4850. 8800GT is an old card but is in option cause of the certainity of the fact that it supports PCIe 1.1 standard but in case of HD 4850 I don't know so I'm asking here, is it backward compatible with PCIe 1.1 standard bus? the ratios are like this, 40% for 8800GT and 60% in favour of HD 4850.
If someone can then please tell me the price of both Corsair TX750 PSU and HD 4850 in Nehru Place, Delhi and if possible then Dealer too.

Both the 8800GT & the AMD Radeon 4850 are backward compatible with PCI-E 1.0 slots. It's only in rare cases that the 8800GT has risen with some issues in some older PCI-E X16 boards. So no way to be sure if it would work in your motherboard without any hiccups without physically testing it.Eitherway between 8800GT & ATI HD4850, it's a no brainer, go for the 4850.It has a huge performance gain over the 8800GT & costs just 1k above it.

The PSU can either be a Corsair TX750 or a Tagan BZ800 both are available in Mumbai for around 8.2k.These PSU's would dual card set-ups with ease too.

Also what resolution do you usually game at? If it's somewhere around 1024x768 then it's pretty much a CPU bound resolution & here your CPU will somewhat prove to be a bottleneck being at stock speeds. If resolutions above that then GPU would have to take the bigger load.In any case, the 4850 should be enough for this year & the Q1 for next year. That is if no mammoth game suddenly decides to come out of the blue.

My LCD TV supports max res. of 1360x768, as I mentioned earlier so i play games mostly on this res. and some odd games at res. of 1024x768. My current GPU allowed me to play Crysis at this res. with Mid settings and Assassin's Creed too at mid settings. As mentioned earlier, I'm getting a better price for PSU in Chandigarh but waiting for Nehru Place price. once confirmed, I'll buy it by the end of the month but I'm worried about one thing too, UPS. What if it turns out my UPS is not Pure Sine wave then what impact would it have on my brnd new PSU and the system itself? I seriously don't wanna invest in a UPS along with this as these 2 parts alone are causing me to strech my budget and moreover I upped my UPS early this year to a 1KVA Double battery beast.

4850 hd i'd say and since you're going for the high end why not consider a raid setup too,it'll give a bit more faster loading times

I'm going to spend almost 80K on my rig later to completely overhaul it so right now its just the PSU+GPU.
