Default Wait for Nehalem

Hi Guys

I was planning to buy a rig this month (New Gaming Rig - Help).
But with nehalem in september, will it be wise to wait till then and buy a nehalem rig. What would be the cost of a mid-end nehalem rig. Looking forward to your thoughts.

Nehalem will be having lots of latency issues to start with...it wil take a year to be mainstream....

But if i get C2Q now, after one year it will not be upgradable (due to socket differences). I experienced it in my first rig, I dont want to repeat the same mistake again. Will it be worth to buy during nov to dec in festival season.

Oh.. ok.. But i would still suggest a high end Quad Core processor. And OC it.
But the best thing is to wait and see what performance they offer once the official reviews are out. If they look promising, only then buy them.

I think Nehalem & DDDR3 prices will come down here in mid of 2009 or at the end of 2009
or may be at the beginning of 2010

@ nish_higher
Thanks for the Link.

No way! If thats the case, then Nehalem will never make it into the mid-range computer market.

nehalem's price cant come down without competetion or introduction of newer proccys..it wont happen soon enough-so hope that nehalems are priced better.

but DDR3 would definitely get cheaper.already 4GB OCZ DDR3 is available for about 10k , though not what u expect for that price coz its 1333mhz and DDR2 @half price runs at 1100mhz..

But Intel will surely reduce the price of Nehalem processors whether they have competition from AMD or not. They will obviously be better than the current generation of AMD processors. So they'll reduce the prices so people will buy that instead of AMD processors. And in the process, AMD's sales will go down again and they will suffer loses again.

^^Not necessarily. Intel will want to get their share in the low-end and mid-range processor segment which is currently the only place where AMD sells most of their products. They will either reduce the prices of Nehalem and make them affordable to budget buyers or they will reduce the prices of the current generation processors(like C2Q) so that even low-end computers can have them. That way, they'll knock of AMD from the market for sometime.

^^Yup.. Thats what I'm telling.. If they wont reduce the prices of Nehalem, then the prices of the current generation processors will be cut by a huge margin. Maybe they'll make C2Qs affordable to low-end computer buyers.

Do you know which month exactly? And how much will it reduce the temperature? At least 20C?

hey all. jst a bit of info.. Nehalem,s were never meant to go mainstream btw.. they are ultra-high-end chips. like SKULLTRAIL .. nd altho they wud be launched soon . wid X58 .. NEHALEM,s are never coming to mainstream.. expect similar chips to hit the market last quater this year or Q1 next year.. also intel is going to work indigenously to get ddr3 prices and latences down.. expect it to be 1.5 times ddr mem at Q1 next year... i,d suggest if u can wait ... then you should . the Tick is coming .. and it always pays off to wait wherever computers are concerned

I suggest you wait for Socket B (LGA1366).
Plus the single socket desktop variant - Bloomfield is bound to be cheap(er?) + mainstream.
Not to mention AMD will also roll out its AM3 socket.
The new sockets will atleast insure you for a year and a half to come.

If you upgrade now your CPU socket + memory will be totally useless in about one product cycle's time.

Even I was about to upgrade but have decided to wait for another few months.
It happened to me with the Socket 478~LGA 775 transition, and I wont repeat my error again.
