A ques on RAM

Can i add 1GB ddr2 RAM, currently there is 512 MB on the PC.

There r only 2 slots for RAM. The chipset is of VIA.

Model no: MSI k9mmv, i think.

do u have 2 X 256 MB ram modules? if yes then u have to remove one of them and attach 1 GB RAM module...

or if u have 1 X 512 MB ram modules then in the one empty slot u can add 1 GB ram module ... make sure they have same frequency and both are DDR2

Read motherboard manual to find what and how much memory is supported by your motherboard.

Then, as jal_desai said, you can add a single 1GB DDR2 stick.

And what do u mean by "same frequency"?

R u talking abt Mhz.

e.g. If i have 512 MB DDR2 667 Mhz then i will add another 1 GB DDR2 667. Am i correct here?

Yes ur wright .Always it s better to add the same frequency Ram so that no problem will occur

all chips like ram, processors come with a specific frequency.. for eg. ur ram might be a 667 mhz one or a 800 mhz one, the latter being better.. so if ur existing RAM is of 667 mhz, then u have to put a RAM of 667 mhz only... unless u want to celebrate diwali a bit early... also take care that the difference between ur 2 RAM chips is not much... a 512mb and a 1gb ram wud go fine, but a 256 mb ram with 1 gb might create heating problms... nevr try o put a 128 mb wid a 1gb RAM guys!!! i did it once, n enjoyed a little boom boom boom....

Yes, of course you can gift your pc with a more gb of ram. Keep a check on reputed brands only like corsair, zion etc. you must take identical frequency of ram you have i.e. 667 Mhz. For an advice i must say that if you can alter your budget and get a new 1gb DIMM of frrequency 800 Mhz and exchange your single 512mb(667mhz) for a single 1gb 800 Mhz(of same brand) by paying a little less for the another 1gb stick which would sum up ypurram upto 2 Gigs it would be really benificial since you will have the gain of dual channel ram with more frequency.
