If you're not going to do any gaming or video editing, AMD X2 processors are still more cost-effective than Intel C2D procys. And an E2160 is NOT Core 2 Duo. It is an 'ordinary' dual core, and is easily outperformed by an AMD processor in the same price class.

For example, an AMD X2 4000+ or 4400+ is faster than an E2160 in most applications, and costs much less than the cheapest Core 2 Duo, the E4300.

Even the 4000+ is more than fast enough for your intended use. Pair it with a motherboard based on a good chipset with reasonable onboard graphics, e.g., a Gigabyte GA-M68SM-S2, and you have an adequate mobo-CPU pair for slightly more than the cost of the cheapest C2D processor alone.
