USB IR receiver

I have a Dell Inspiron 640m laptop and I want it to sense the IR signals from the remote which comes with the Dell inspiron 1500/1525 models. I recently found that my laptop doesn't have an IR sensor. WIll I be able to get something like a USB IR receiver in the market? if so what will be its cost? Will I be able to use it in windows and linux if I use it with the Lirc project? Thanks in advance...

Why do you want IR port because IR devices communicate in very short distances only. Instead you can make use of bluetooth. I dont know whether bluetooth is available in your laptop model, if not you can go for USB bluetooth dongles.

I do have bluetooth in my laptop..... But I have an IR remote already... and so I want to put it to use... How much will a bluetooth remote cost?
