Default DVD reader problem

Hi

I have a ASUS laptop and its DVD reader has suddenly started giving problems . Whenever I insert any DVD or CD, it tries to read it (makes some humming noice for a few seconds) and then stops. The cd/dvd is not being detected in both Windows as well as Linux . So i dont think that ir can be a software issue.

Earlier, it used to give this same problem with only a few of my DVDs .

Scratches are not a problem as i am using fairly new DVDs/Cds.

Any solutions?

I already have cleaned the lens. And there is no service center for ASUS Laptops in Delhi

And one more thing, I am planning to upgrade my RAM. Can you please tell me, how can I know which RAM do I have? DDR1 or DDR2? Also, will my motherboard support 1.5GB ram?

Champ tumhare Dant to Motion jaise chamak rahe hain. Ok
1. for Dvd reader you must change its lense. lense seems to be currupted here.
if no service centre then many other computer hardware repairing shops are available.
2. to know about each smallest part of your system download, install and run the tiny software:
Everest Home Edition. Just google it.
good by.
