dvd writer not writing dvds

hi, i know som1 has already reported a similar problem but mine isa bit different, not only i am unable to write dvds but also rewritable dvds, i have tried 5 upto now & all of them have gone bad. & my dvd writer is out of warranty.. any ideas? n i have tried nero,other burning softwares as well... help will be appreciarted.. i dont have any friend who stays closeby so that i can try my burner on his but i ll try if i can..

Which is your DVD writer? I mean which brand?

the brand is samsung.. & it doesnt have any problem reading dvds

Please clarify problem is only for writing,or for playing also.Possible cause may be a dirty lens of the dvd writer.Try a lens cleaning cd.Or your DVD writing software may be corrupted.Try reinstalling Nero or other software you are using.Or one more possible cause may be a faulty datacable,I.e the cable that connect dvd writer to mother board.Check data cable as well.try these things.your problem may be solved.If not contact service center of the brand u r using.

what error you get while you try to burn, can you explain it, I mean is it starting to burn and completes to fail or is it failing to initate right from beginning

it is not data cable.it is ide cable.use 80 conductor ide caBLE.

Similar problem with my dvd writer....writing dvd but not cd..

Did you all try with lower speeds? 4x?

it can read data perfectly but cant write... n i tried more than 1 dvd burning software but the problem is still there..
error .. i get an error saying burn process failed or even if it gets burnt the last thing which was burnt doesnt work . if u know what i mean

have you tried resetting DMA, if not try it. I think its a common problem in DVD burners and you need to keep thisDMA reset

after this step try burning your dvd
