Need help with New DVD-Writer

Hey guys.. I m in need of some help.

Actually recently my DVD writer went bad recently. So i got myself another one. Samsung SH-S203 (the one which got best buy award in digit). But within days i experienced some problems with it.

1. The IDE drive check during boot time has increased considerably since i have installed it.
2. In nero, after selecting the files to be burnt, after clickin next, it takes considerable time to show the next window options.
3. The drive works well for a while, but sometimes its data transfer becomes miserable. takes around an hour to burn a dvd in 16x. but when i change its connection in d cpu, and connect it to any other sata port, it starts workin again.

can u tell me wht d problem is? is it due to dma? how can i enable it in win xp?
