final candidate for 15k rig
hey its me again http://www.thinkdigit.com/forum/hardware-q/88434-e2180-e4500-post843903.html
i've narrowed out the competition to this final list of candidates:-
e2180 3200
gigabyte g31 2850
2gb (800mhz) x1 2100
250 gb seagate sata 2350
nvidia 8600(512mb) 4200
atx cab+psu 1250
------
16,590(incl tax)
i think the "tax" is retailers cut :0 suggestions for improv are welcome
anyway, is 2GB 800 mhz single stick overkill for this rig?i was gonna go for 4gb in dual channel.but adding the 4 gb, total becomes 18775/- so MAYBE i'll get it.they said 2Gb 667mhz is not avilable.is it true?
i think the board is GA-G31M-S2L.Is it any good?eagerly awaitin a reply!!

Re: final candidate for 15k rig
Get two Kingston 1Gb sticks and put them in dual channel mode.
G31 is a decent chipset and Gigabyte is trustworthy.
Google for reviwes of that board.
but try to get a board that has PCIe 2.0

Re: final candidate for 15k rig
U are going above ur quoted price. If u wanna stay under 15-16K budget then stick to E2180 and 8600GTGDDR3.

Re: final candidate for 15k rig
Will u stop acting foolish again and again? THERE IS NO 512MB VERSION OF 8600GT WHICH HAS DDR3 MEMORY. ONLY 256MB VERSIONS HAVE DDR3 AND THEY PERFORM FAAAAAAAAAAR BETTER THAN 512MB DDR2 VERSIONS. If u want our suggestion get what johnjix says and get a Mercury 256MB GDDR3 8600GT as he pointed. Than its upto u but please dont post again and ask the price of 512MB GDDR3 for god's sake

Re: final candidate for 15k rig
^^true. 8600GT is just a small upgrade from a 7600GT. It cant handle 512MB.

Really,i am pretty sure that 1 of my friends bought an xfx 8600 gt 512 MB GDDR3 overclocked 1,from Mumbai i think. Will check if u want to know th model.Yeah a 256 MB GDDR3 would beat 512 MB DDR2(why the heck do they release it neway, have even heard of 1 GB models, maybe to fool ppl who dont know much abt gpu's?)any day.But i think if u overclock 512 MB GDDR3 may prove useful for playing at a higher resolution.

No offense meant but why is crappy mercury product advised for a Graphics solution. It may be cheap but you never know when it is going to fail. Support is pathetic, you should be lucky to get good fps out of games.
So, please. Don't go for inferior card just to save few bucks.

Re: final candidate for 15k rig
sorry y'all for the belated reply.
got the 20k rig with the e7200 ,unfortunately its the ddr2 version(couldnt get the dealer to change since I'd already paid the advance b4 i got the "ddr3 is better" reply) but heres a real shocker- it worx better than the ddr3.i found only minimal (if not none) perormance differnces bet ddr2 & ddr3.in fact it runs rainbow6 vegas even better than ddr3 ver-almost 5-10fps better.
heres the final rig
c2d e7200 :6000
gigabyte g31 2850
2gb (800mhz) x1 2100
250 gb seagate sata 2350
nvidia 8600(512mb)DDR2 4100
atx cab+psu(zeb) 1150
+tax totls around 19350/-
i pitted it against this rig:-
amd X2 5200+ ,asus m2n mxse ,4g ram ,nV 6800 256 ddr3
we both used the same xp x86 (so he removed the extra 2Gig) and to my absolute amazement there was minimal performance difference bet both setup.ddr2 maybe a bit slower but it still dosent run outa breath easily.
on a final note i'd recomend the ddr3 ver to all coz of the simple logic of future proofin. ddr3 256 mb retalis around 4-5k in our parts not around 3k.johnjx check your prices.yeah my previous card was 5200fx.gud card.and paranj watch your language.xfx has 512 mb ddr3 @ around 6k.
