Default Maximum Hard Disk capacity detected

Hi All,

Can i know what is the maximum Hard disk capacity that a windows xp disk can detect, not the sp2 disk. When i used that normal xp disk for my 320GB Sata HDD it just showed 120GB and did not detect the other 80GB IDE HDD, but when i used my XP with SP2 disk i could see all the hard disks.

So is there any limit like that.

If that is the case then why did the disk with SP2 show the complete Hard Disk.

Also in BIOS all hard disk with its full capacity were displayed.

My older rig was P4 2.66GHz, Intel D101GGC motherboard, 1GB and 512MB DDR400Mhz RAM.

I have not tried in my new rig. But just installed windows from my sp2 disc on it, which showed all HDD.

xp without any service pack, the original release identified less than 160 GB HDD, this is not a mobo issue but OS issue

yes THIS is not mobo issue.what i meant was there is a limitation (hardware) for max hdd size.like my motherboard can't support greater than 2tb as told by paranj.
