Default Can I install Windows Vista on External HDD


I have a PC P4 with 160GB HDD running WinXP

their are some softwares which runs only of Windows Vista so for this I need Vista

I have brought one external Harddisk

I want to install Vista on it and use it whenever needed
I want to make it like if the external HDD is not plugged in my PC on's winXP and when I plug In External HDD and restart PC, than PC should Run Windows Vista

Can I do this ?

Is this Possible ? if Yes than How ?

Please Help

We Cannot Install Vista On An External HDD It Shows An Error.
I Too Have An External HDD Of 80GB But I Also Couldnot Install Vista On It

I do believe that you can buy a adapter that will allow an external harddrive to plug into an ide or sata slot. I assume that with one of those it would function like an internal drive.

much the reverse.

you needn't have an adapter to make external hdd internal. Just yank it out of its case and fix it like a normal hard drive.

but this beats its perpose.

I have heard of some hacks to force windows vista into a live USB like mode, but I can't get the links at the moment.

I didn't know that. Of course, I never really had the desire to take the case off of an external hard drive. I always figured they were built specifically for usb connection. Learning that they are just pre-converted internal drives is disappointing.
