Hey this problem exists in the following cases try these
1. When the OS is corrupted.
2. When the RAM is damaged.
3. When the Hard Disk gone bad.
4. Or else When the RESET button is struck.

This one happened due to drive problem also. To check if ur system is faulty, boot with some live CDs.
