sony dru 830a not reading dvd-r

i bought sony dru 830a year back based on digit recommendation.now from a month its not reading dvd-r format.most of the time it does not read dvd-r.
one time i burned dvd-r with slowest speed possible and tried it in my friends comp,it is reading in his comp.when i tried the same in my comp it reads it as blank cd.all digit dvds read fine.i even flashed the firmware to new version ss25 from ss23.what could be the problem??

it is going to fail soon...once that happen gradually, u wont even be able to read digit dvd..

Try using lens cleaner or service your DVDWriter if you know (Do it at your own risk)

its due to weakness in the blue laser which is used to read the dics

u may change the laser but i think now optical drive are very low in cost so try to get

lite on or asus drive with 20x read capability (costs u just 1.2k to 1.5 k)

I m also facing same problem,with The DVD-RW,,it can write DVD-r,but cant read them.

and i would also like to mention that the same DVD writer is able to read the same DVd's in Win98,which it is not able to read in WinXp,

Can you please suggest a solution to this?

change the ide cables from 40 conductor to 80 conductor.
if its still not reading ,go to device manager uninstall ide ata/atapi controllers and restart.
now it shud sttart reading.no lens or any other problem.mine's working perfectly now.
