Suggest me for mem upgrade

I have HP compaq presario V2000 with 256MB RAM i want to install windows vista on it.so i need to upgrade its RAM.please suggest here for upgardes.

i think for laptop you can upgrade the memory yourself..graphics not possible...processor not possible if possible to be done by company

thanks friend for ans. but please suggest me about memory upgrade currently i m using 256MB,i want to upgrade it can i need to go 2GB or 512MB.

which will suitable for my laptop.

It wil be waste of money and efforts to install Vista, because it will be slow on your laptop. Better upgrade the laptop first or stick to Win XP. Even if you upgrade the RAM to 2GB, I doubt if Vista will run smooth.

running windows xp 1gb (even upgrading to 512mb you will notice performance boost)..vista without eye candy 2gb will manage but wont perform as well as if it is xp...i think the reason u asked for upgrade is becos you dont wanted to spend that much on buying a new system, is it?

first of all thanks to you frnds for answer.yes you guessed,i don't want to spend much money on system.

please suggest memory which company and also cost in delhi please.

i think it is better that you head to www.crucial.com
and use the crucial system scanner tool to determine what type of memory is supported by your system. This will ensure that you won't be suggested the wrong memory type for your particular model of that series of laptop by compaq.
after determining the exact memory type, you could then take a look at the same memory from other brands like kingston, corsair, transcend

i have 2 slots on my system(one have 256MB and one is blank) but system not support dual channle memory.but i confused,do i need to purchase another one 256MB ram to make total 512MB or my system will not support for another adding 256MB(as it has not dual channle support)
please suggest me here so that i can come out from this confusion.

Better get another 512MB or 1G stick as dual channel 512 is not helpful for Vista. Even in XP most of the time 1G single channel seems better than 512 dual channel as the memory usage in XP w/o ny apps running wud come close to 300~400, so not much room for apps.
And dun even try vista on 512.
