My Acer 5002 NWLMI came for two without any problems. Battery was good too, I could use it for an hour without charging (two hours at the time of purchase). I sold it to a student of mine, he spoilt the battery in two months by always keeping it on charge and using it as a desktop :S
The LCD screen had a small artefact in top right corner at the time I sold it to him. It was like a shadow and was only visible when viewing at an angle. NO DEAD PIXELS

The main concern is the battery and not LCD. I had used a Dell 6400. In the beginning it used to come for 2.5 hours and after 7-8 months usage (didn't use as a desktop) the battery lasted 1 hr 45 min - 2 hr. Trackpad gets 'smooth' and the keys gets 'loose'. Now using a MacBook Pro (as a desktop) for 6 months and till now no issues.

Battery issues apart, I feel you can use your lappy for 2 years.

Can we use local batteries with Dell lappys?
And which yields better battery life? frequent charging, continuous charging( using like a desktop), or charging only when batter life is low?

And tips bout lappy charging?

Local? Exide or Amaron? No
Just kidding, you do get generic batteries abroad, don't know about here in India. They usually specify for which laptop it can be used.

It's like a cell phone, Lithium ion, don't charge all day. I charged for 12 hours first time, and there after six hours each time. I used to use the battery till it asks me to plug in the power supply, and then charge it non-stop for six hours.

Ive been using a SE phone which uses a Ly-Pol battery. It prefers frequent charing and that way once fully charged, gives very gud backup.

Is there ny other way by which we can use it as a desktop w/o damaging the battery?

Many laptops will work without the battery plugged in. Try and see. Depends on the laptop, if the battery is a part of the power circuit then it won't work. If you have the battery in place then you have to keep discharging/recharging it.

My lappy comes for 4 hours (4.5 hrs without HDD activity) and using for over 6 months like a desktop. Anyways battery damage is inevitable. But with some effort and care you can prolong it's life.

Here some tips which helps:
1. Never keep charging your lappy. When it's fully charged, remove from the AC power.
2. Also never let your battery to drain fully and shut/sleep automatically.
3. When you don't need Wifi and BT, switch it off.
4. Reduce the brightness of the LCD. Keep at bare minimum where you're comfortable.
5. Don't install programs you don't use. Apps which use less system resource also helps.
6. Turn the display off when you don't need to 'see' like when playing music or downloading.
7. Remove external devices (like USB mouse, External HDD) if you don't need it.

Hi, ive ordered a Dell XPS M1530 lappy
It has a C2D, 4G ram, and 8600M GT. And the provided charger is a 90W. Will it be able to run the lappy w/o battery?
Coz i think the lappy itself will consume more power than 90w at load.

And moreover, Dell Inspiron comes with 65W charger. How cud it run on charger itself as the proccy nd gcard itself draws more power than that?

@khansaqib101
there do exist an avg life span for most living beings including humans which is some 60~70. Its due to their own fault(or some other's) that they break the neck very early

Hope lappys dun get same fate

^^
I think it should run. My Dell Inspiron 6400 could run without battery.
