IIRC U r having an ancient system with a 700 Mhz proccy and low RAM.

1. Consider upgrading the system or atleast increase the amount of RAM.
(or)
1. Have adequate empty space in the root drive, so that the windows page file will be handled easily
2. Disable some visual effects
3. Disable some windows services that u don't use, like the 'Auto update', 'System restore', 'Remote assitance'

P.S: Why have u posted the same thread in two sections?

it must be some software problem....delete all the unwanted applications from startup...try cleaning your registry...
give proper cooling to your pc...is there any heating problem with your processor...
is your graphics driver properly installed???

try this simple trick. create a new user profile from the user accounts option in control panel. boot into the new profile and then delete the old profile which u were using from advanced setting found in 'my computer' i think.
this gives u a (partly) new registry and things maybe faster. it worked for me.... if not, then format it and reinstall windows
