the max res that u can game depends both on ur gpu and ur monitor.
wit ur present monitor (700S) u wont be able to game @ res higher than 1280x1024 cuz thats the max res supported by ur monitor.every monitor has a max res that they r capable of displaying.so choose ur monitor and gfx card in accordance with the res at whihc u plan to game.

if u want max res of 1280x1024 from TFT then buy 17" or 19" (non widescreen).
but its better to buy 17" or 19" wide with a res of 1440x900

Choices may vary. Though, not many prefers widescreen for gaming. However, they are gr8 for movies.

Most older games looked weired on widescreens, but most of 2days games gud supports for wide monitors. Even classical games like CS 1.6 has patches to use widescreens with them.
@ 1440*900, a 17" monitor will have crisper nd sharper images than a 19".
And for playing most games @ 1440*900 with med ~high details u ll need min of 8600GT nd better get a 9600GT/HD 3870.

And most of the times, its our monitors that limit display resolution as they are not upgraded that often.

So I assume dat above high settings is reachable in 8800GT AD edition or 9600GT

then can 8600GT is enough 4 playin crysis in medium settings(with 1024*768)
it doesnt look dat weired(graphics) in medium settings I guess...
it looks nice in medium settings.......
since ATi & Nvidia are following moore's law
so how much price drop will be there in 8800GT ADE & 9600GT in 1 or 2 yrs
I guess they will be in our budgets....

First of all, dont get confused between High/Above High/Ultra high settings.
And yes, can be achieved easily with 8800GT. For, 9600GT cant say. I think, it struggles. May be 9600GT owners can shed more light.

Ofcourse ! And if ur card can, then u can play Crysis at high settings, no AA @25+ fps. Just like me...
8600GT can be a very good card, if u want it to be. Nevertheless, the card is best known for VFM.
