9600GT Without Upgrade or 8600GT With Upgrade
want to buy new graphic card my current config is
Pentium D 930 3Ghz
Intel D945GNT original Motherboard
1GB(512x2) 667MHz DDR2 Transcend Ram
19" LCD Monitor @ 1440x900
Budget is around 10K
I'm considering 8600gt or 9600gt. If go for 9600gt it will definitely bottleneck my system & if I upgrade my system Both mobo & processor i can manage only 8600GT which around 4K mark.
So which will be the better option 9600GT Without Upgrade or 8600GT With Upgrade.

Re: 9600GT Without Upgrade or 8600GT With Upgrade
Games depend heavily on graphics card though I'll suggest you to upgrade your rig to an pcie 2.0 compliant mobo & intel c2d e8xxx based proc & 8600 GT.
Later you can always buy better gfx card better than 9600gt which is only dx10 compliant. Say 9800GT

true .. but e8xx alone would cost 7.5k and budget is limited.

Re: 9600GT Without Upgrade or 8600GT With Upgrade
Then try e2160 Rs. 2500-2600 - A very good overclocker.
For mobo try abit IP35-E Rs. 5000-6000
or Biostar TP35D2A7 Motherboard Price - Rs.4,500- 4800.
By the way what mobo you're going to buy.
I think you're going to sell your old proc & mobo.

Re: 9600GT Without Upgrade or 8600GT With Upgrade
i ve just bought 9600gt and i m highly satisfied....8600gt is far slower then 9600gt according to many reviews over net...
if ur major work involves movies, casual gaming and music then upgrade
8600gt
abit ip35-e mobo(good onboard audio and great performer)
and if u r a gamer like me then go for
palit 9600gt +1gb ram
....
both the above updates are 10k

Re: 9600GT Without Upgrade or 8600GT With Upgrade
@ sachin
I'm going to use this rig mainly for gaming
so my current config+9600gt+1gb ram perform better than c2d+8600gt.

Re: 9600GT Without Upgrade or 8600GT With Upgrade
though u wont be able to get full performance without c2d, but it will be better then mobo+c2d...
u can later buy ip35-e...
but if itz for gaming...then 2gb(net) and 9600gt are must....9600gt with 2gb transcend and c2d e8200 gives 20-25 fps for me in crysis very high....and plays any game at very/ultra high at 30+fps

Re: 9600GT Without Upgrade or 8600GT With Upgrade
it seems that 9600gt is better option.
regarding ram upgrade which parameters of newer ram should be exactly same as older ram so there will be no compatibility issues

go for 9600gfx card as this will ensure u can play all games at a decent fps.. u can change the mob processor later but its better u keep high buget for gfx card as it is the heart of game..

Re: 9600GT Without Upgrade or 8600GT With Upgrade
i vote for e8200 + abit ip35e + 8600GT + 2gb ram.. u can always get a new gfx card .. newer and better and cheaper ones come once in 6 months. . proccy's life time is about a year. . remember that the 8600GT was released almost about a year ago . it may have low performance compared to 9600GT , but its price is also quite low. . .

Re: 9600GT Without Upgrade or 8600GT With Upgrade
wat i wud suggest u is to extend ur budget by 3k and get a 8800GT 512Mb and another stick of 1GB ram.ur current procy wont be much of a bottleneck.u wont notice any performance hit cuz of ur procy.
another option is ATI HD3850 or 3870.
ur procy still has enuf juice to pwr u for 1 yr or maybe more.but change the mobo as soon as u can.945 chipset just sux.get a IP35-E later on when u hav money.

But he will not get dual channel if he buys 1 GB stick as he has currently 2x512 MB
[ offtopic ]
@ hellgate - Are there much performance difference between pci-e 1.0 & pci-e 2.0

Re: 9600GT Without Upgrade or 8600GT With Upgrade
^^^ dunno much bout the 945 chipset cuz i havent experimented much with it.965 and above chipsets will support 2*512MB and 1Gb in aschynchronus dual channel mode.they also support a 512 & 1Gb in dual; channel mode though performance wont as good as in 2*1GB Dual Channel Interleaved mode (Synchronus mode).
maybe the 945 does supports that too.
as of now u wont get any perf diff in pcie1.0 & 2.0 slots and cards.the cards available in the market 2day cant even fully utilize the bandwidth provided by pcie1.0.

Get a 9600GT .. wait for more proccy's to come out .. let those stabilize in terms of prices .. then shift onto ddr3

Re: 9600GT Without Upgrade or 8600GT With Upgrade
@ topgear
i will get dual channel mode with following config
Channel A slot 1 - 1GB
Channel A slot 2 - empty
Channel B slot 1 - 512MB
Channel B slot 2 - 512MB
By the way I have decided to buy 9600gt with 1GB ram upgrade
I am considering following model from EVGA
e-GeForce 9600 GT SSC 512MB
e-GeForce 9600 GT KO 512MB
http://www.evga.com/articles/394.asp
Is EVGA is good or should i go for other brand ?

Re: 9600GT Without Upgrade or 8600GT With Upgrade
Hmmm...
But its a pci 2.0 card so, which brands of mobo supports 2.0 & they may be
costlier than older pci-e mobo....

PCIe 2.0 cards work perfectly on PCIe 1.0 boards.
