Question Troubled DVD ROM

I hav a Lite-on DVDRW LH20A1P , bought abt 8 mnths ago .
The problem is dat wen i insert a disc , the dvd rom sumtimes reads the disc perfectly but sumtimes it does not den i hav 2 repeatedly eject & insert the disc 4-5 times , and den it is able 2 read the dvd-R , and in case of a dvd+RW it simply does not reads it , although the dvd+rw is still easily read on my frnds system, and also, earlier the same dvd+rw was easily read by my system aswell....
Wat is the problem can anybody tell me...
I am using WIN XP PRO SP 2
1.6 Ghz , 512 Ram , 40 GB HDD(10 GB free) , 128 MB Nvidia Geforce.

AFAIK this is a clear problem of lens. And if am not wrong, cheaper dvd won't harm lens.

I have had this model for 10 months straight & so far not any huge issues as such.Mine initially had an issue with reading Dual Layer DVD's but that got fixed with the KLOM update.

The best thing to diagnose if it's the drive or your media then better take the DVD-RW disc to your friends place & check it out there. If it works fine then it's your Lite-On drive which might have issues with it's lens.Get it replaced under warranty.Make most of it while there is time else no idea when these driver screw up later on.

Mine has already shown signs of failing some DVD's when burned at 6X or 12X.But happens randomly. This started happening since I got that bloody starforce based game was installed on my rig.
