Guys i have a D-Link ADSL modem.... the ethernet cable is broken so was to buy a new one... so wanted to know if there is only one type of ethernet or of different quality which affects speed

The speed will depend on the distance between ur modem and pc.
If that cable is a cat 5 then the max length should be 100 mtrs.
If that cable is a cat 5 then buy a required length of cable and straight cripm
each side of the cables with rj-45 jack. That should work though I'am not sure.
