Unhappy ..::Broadband Woes::..

Guys I have Airtel 256 Unlimited plan, and my pc runs 24x7 and I see that every few minutes, my speed drops to zero and then comes up again. I am using Beetle 220bx modem from Airtel. I called up airtel and made a complaint againt this and they sent a tech-guy over but the tech guy says this 5 or 6 sec speed drop is of no consequence and hence he has left without doing anything. Wat could the problem possibly be and any remidies???

Thnx for any help guyz.
Regrards.

If your speed goes to zero after every few minutes...than you have problem of frequent disconnecion.How you come to know that your internet get disconnected after every few minutes.

Please use this to find out airtel service is faulty or your system has some problem.

1) start-->> run-->> type cmd -->> Ok-->> command prompt will open.
2) In command promt type-->> ping 192.168.1.1 -t
3)you will see some reply like:
Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=64

If you see some broken lines in this series, than there is some problem with either your LAN card, or modem LAN port.

3) Now again repeat 1 and 2 step.
This time type ping 202.56.215.55 -t

and see the result. Again type
ping 202.56.215.6 -t

and see the result.

Please change 202.56.215.55 and 202.56.215.6 with your own DNS address provided by airtel.

If there is some broken lines in DNS ping, than there is some problem from Airtel side. Make complain again.

ravi_9793 thnx for your elaborate and dedicated reply. I find my speed goes down by looking at my download meter you know some software. And btw I tried wat you gave and it is giving me some timeouts at certain intervals.

And the airtel guy, keeps saying it does not have a problem btw I think its disconnecting bcs the 3rd and 2nd light goes off.

I guess the ping to 192 is to the modem?? if so that has not showed any timeout for 1 hour and for the entire time, I have not found any Decrese in speed in my software too. But for the 2xx one, I found timeouts.
