Exclamation Should I disconnect USB devices before restart/shutdown ?

  1. Is there any need to disconnect all the USB devices before restart/shutdown ?
  2. Is there any need to disconnect USB device like a modem that we use often ?
  3. If I didn't disconnect, will there be any chances of hardware failure ?
  4. I'm hearing a beep during POST(Power-On-Self-Test) when I had kept connected my USB modem. What does that signify ?
Please help...

There is no need for disconnecting USB devices and its quite normal to hear the "beep" sound when booting up.

Its not a problem to have usb devices connected.
Just make sure that your system doesn't have usb boot as a priority,
SSD's have a limited read/write cycle and you don't want to waste it with boot checks.

Somehow I face a problem when I leave my USB stick(actually an mp3 player) in the port and try to restart. The system hangs right at the BIOS.

If there is no problem, then what does the beep signify ?
