Default Two pen drives gone within 5 minutes!

I went to my friend room yesterday to bring some songs and other things as he has air tel broadband...When i connect my Transcend 1 GB pen drive it did't work....Within a minute it was so hot that I could't hold it...After that he inserted one of his two pen drives and that one was also not working. After that it was the turn to insert Transcend 2GB pen drive and for our luck it worked well. When we check two pen drives in my system and two more other system we came to know that both of them have gone to hell.
Now I would like know what could be the problem behind this tragedy as I had lost one 160GB HDD in the same system..

Is that system properly earthed??

Improper earthing will sometimes burn out components like this.

it has to be bad power supply to the USB port and probably leaking current is reaching there thru the ground pins which is common for the whole system. sadly there is no simple way to check this but to verify that you have proper earthing for ur SMPS and closely check the cabinate from inside for loose screws and twisted wires.

my friend system is also having the same problem.. the system is very clean.. so no pins or twisted wire.

i want to confirm, whether bad earthing will cause the problem..

we have lost 2x1 gb transcend pen drive and 2x1 usb game pads..

I agree that there is a power problem...But his system is working fine...He is using his 2Gb pen drive without any problem...Why it has happened to 1Gb pen drive only?

well it must be a older model and not able to handle bad power.

i recommend u get a multimeter and a electronics buff near you to give ur pc a checkup.

It has to be earthing problem or power surge in the usb....... check for earthing problems first

Your 2 GB pendrive is destined to live, while others were not so lucky...

Its due to overvoltage i think which was unbearable by the 1GB drives but the 2GB drive is able to bear it

I do think so...Bcoz when I tried to connect his 2Gb pen drive to my system through USB extension cable xp couldn't detect it..But, when i connect it to the USB slot it worked fine..I asked that vendor for the replacement and he told he has to send it to the company...I hope I will get replacement.
