Unhappy Portforward problem with Router & Modem

Hi guys,
I have a BSNL MT882 Modem and Linksys WRT 54 Wifi Router. am not able to port forward at all .. Before I got the wifi router everything was working fine, but now im unable to open the ports. My firewall is also configured to allow the required port for utorrent. still problem persists.

IP of modem is 192.168.1.1 and router is 192.168.1.2

I have forwarded the port to 192.168.1.2 in the modem.

as everything was working fine before, so if i am guessing your *new* wifi router is the culprit, so make it to forward ports.

My personnel suggestion: flash the firmware of Linksys WRT 54 Wifi Router with Tomato Firmware..

it will make your 2300 router to 15,000/- router
there are many advantages of doing so. You can tweak various settings that were unavailable in original firmware + it gives you so much control.
You can setup dynamic-dnssetup, , block websites with keyword filtering, make vlans, run routing protocols i.e BGP or RIP v2 with another routers, setup static DHCP,Quality of Service, port forwarding, security, boost antenna signal to respectable ratios etc.

i don't have this router, but i experimented with my friends router, with default firmware he was getting weak signals in his room and it disconnected often, but now however the signal strength didn't increase much but the connection is stable.

I also need some help regarding router setup.
My brother has dumped BSNL broadband for Sify 256Kbps unlimited. If there are any sify users here can they suggest me if i can use a router or not for my 1.5Lacs pc.I don't want to blow it up since i have heard that sify sometimes has had live voltage in there lines.
Also it would provide additional protection.

errr... its fixed now. I had given the wrong IP to forward the port .

@harvik does the sify connection have a modem? if its a direct line connected to your system then most probabally they have fixed connection via the MAC address of you PC, this is what I had read somewhere.

@Harvik780
Get a UPS that can filter the line for you. I have seen Proview UPS that offers this feature, and I suppose other brands should offer it too.

No the sify connection does not have a modem.

So that means i cannot use a router?
I don't want to end up with a blown pc when electricity hits the line.
Maybe i can use a switch then as an interface between the connection.

^^^ you can. it may require to change the mac address of the router.you can either change the router mac to clone your PC mac address or Ask sify for technical support.
