Arrow Buying some new hardware(UPS and subwoofer): need suggestions

Hello guys,
I am planning to buy the following:
1. UPS or battery
2. Speakers and subwoofer

The UPS story:
My UPS is not able to give backup. As soon as voltage fluctuates or power goes off, it goes into the backup mode but PC switches off. I have this problem for almost an year after an accident. That day, I switched on the UPS and after sometime, I could literally hear 'blasts' from UPS. They lasted for about 15 - 30 secs during which I was in another room. I could see even red flashes over walls of the room in which PC and UPS are there. I somehow managed to switch off the UPS with a long wooden stick. I could smell of plastic/rubber being burnt after I switched off and the room was full of smoke.

After about 5 hrs, I dared to switch on the UPS and it again worked like normal, except that it could not give backup.

So where do you guys think is the problem? Do I need to replace the whole UPS unit or do I need to replace the batteries alone?

(offtopic: It was good luck that I wasn't in the room. usually after starting the PC, I sit in front of it while it boots, but that day, I went to another room while the PC was booting!)

The speaker story:
I had those typical cheap small speakers which I got when I bouught the assembled PC. Around a month back, when I started the PC, suddenly there was some 'Dhub' sound from the speakers and they would not work. These speakers were not connected through the UPS but were directly connected to the plug.

Now I want to buy speakers but I prefer to buy subwoofers so that I can enjoy bass on my PC itself.

Waitings for your inputs!
Thank you for your time.
-Rohan
