Default Sound card help required to run speech to text software.


Does my Gigabyte GA-MA69VM-S2 ATI Radeon. 690 V MOBO supoort 16 bit recording.It has realtek for sound drivers.If my MOBO doesnt support that, could some one please suggest me a good 16 BIT sound card.My budget is 2k.Should i go for 24 bit instead?Whats the advantage? Could some also please help in choosing a good MIC for recording. im planning to use it for voice recognistion.

Yeah the onboard audio would easily support 16 bit full duplex operation.
For the mic,if you have the budget,go for a Shure SM56 or SM57(~2-2.5k).

shouldn't any local microphone work? Shure is only needed if you are into professional audio. I use a Rs. 50 microphone I got from Nehru Place for my audio works. Not sure if it is good enough for voice recognition though.

I suspect if any ordinary Microphones would be competant for speech to text.
I used IBM Via voise before and it was extremely tough to get my Microphone type what i wanted to do.

When u intially set up such Software, u will require to train it with your voise, and a powerful microphone would come in very handy.
Im planning to use dragon naturally speaking now.

hmmm... In that case, if you do go for good microphones, be sure to tell the shopkeeper what exactly you want it for. there are different types of professional microphones and you need one exactly suited for vocals.
