Default Vista has poor scanner support?

Hi,

I just plugged-in my Microtek ScanMaker 3840 Scanner and it was not installed by Windows Vista Ultimate. I tried installing Microtek Scanwizard as well but it is still not working.

I don't understand...can't Windows Vista support even old hardware? This just sucks after spending so much money When I ran Windows Vista upgrade advisor in Windows XP, it didn't say anything about incompatible scanner or anything like that. It just didn't complain that time but now my scanner doesn't work.

Is there anyway to get this issue resolved or have I just lost my scanner?

TIA

try right clicking the scanner software properties and select compatibility as windows sp2 and then try running the software.

Sadly, that doesn't solve the problem. I just don't understand that why didn't Vista Upgrade Advisor complaint. Looks like Microsoft doesn't know what is and what is not compatible with their own OS.
