Default UPS or PSU causing problem?

Hi.

I have a PTX UPS and a Zebby PSU 400W. I have a strange problem....

Whenever there is a power cut my PC switches off instantly like I dont even have a UPS The funny thing is that it sometimes stays on , but most of the time goes off.

So i was wondering is it coz my UPS is really old? Like 2-3 years old? I have never really given it for servicing or anything like that...

However I was thinking that it could be because of my stock PSU. I read that some PSUs are too weak to even stay onin the brief interval between the cutting of the power and the UPS activating....

So what is causing my problem according to you?

Change the battery if you haven't done it before in 2-3 years. Get the circuits checked if the power supply is not stable(ie it fluctuates regularly)

UPS.

today my PC shut down when there was a power cut, even though i have UPS, just 1month old(APC ES500).

could be coz of weak battery, i ran the PC on UPS for 5-10mins yestrday.

Even a brand new UPS would not work well unless you would keep it fully charged

If that's the case, some problem is definitely there in the UPS, may be either in battery or in any other part. It would surely be in warranty period , so contact service center

This is definitely due to UPS, due to delay in its changeover time...its better to service such UPS becoz its the problem with circuitry. It can be also due to connecting heavy load than the rated one.

will test it again (manually), if it fails again, i'll get it replaced.

btw do all APC UPS take like 10secs to turn ON? it even makes some noise, Instruction manual says the UPS runs a "test ". but everytime?

First u will need to find the total power for ur compu using online power supply calculator such as this http://www.extreme.outervision.com/p...ulatorlite.jsp

If u have a 600VA ups u can connect a total load of 360w (if its a good brand), if its 800va u can go 480W.
u can connect upto a 400~450W load in 600VA ups but it will create problems..like overheating ups,or random shutdown as u faced.

Ummm... i dunno which I have..... man I am such a noob when it comes to UPSs..... Its not mentioned on the back either....

My power req is kinda above 360W... I've never experienced a overheating UPS, so i guess my UPS is 600VA, and the random shutdowns are caused by my underpowered UPS?

if u r getting proper backup with this ups then its the problem with circuitry otherwise its due to weak battery.
