Please post your Pc specifications:-
Computer freezing cannot be caused by a bad psu because bad psu will lead to turn off the LED lights on your cabinet and turn off your computer abnormally.

This problem can be caused by 2 issues.
1.Some driver problem.Bad drivers passing through memory can cause this.
2. bad ram
Ram can always be tested by a utility called memtest.Just google it and download .Burn the iso on cd and bot through the cd.Then start memory test.
Run it for 3-4 hours .See if there any errors .If there is one or more error then its time to replace your ram.

If its a driver problem then install a fresh copy of windows.Install your softwares one by one .Wait for some time and see if it freezes and then install another software and then wait for some time and so on.

You have bought a new dvd writer .just detach it and see it might be the culprit.Recent hardware changes can also cause it.

Another way of checking ba driver is just log onto safe mode and see if your computer freezes. If it freezes then definitely there is a hardware problem otherwise it is driver problem.

^^no please talk here only so that others are also benefited.

to both of you either get SPEEDFAN or CORE TEMPcore temp is known for working very good on c2d's but speedfan gives you all the reading unlike coretemp which gives you just cpu temp readings. And yes they don't create problems!

Guys the temp. that u mentioned is nothing for ur system to kill ur brain.
Just rip apart every single thing in your system and reinstall every component after cleaning it and make sure to check every connection twice or thrice if required.
Install a fresh copy of your operating system with all updates included and also install latest drivers from their respective hardware sites.
Do check this and see if the problem persists again.

@ gauravsuneja
Your motherboard capacitors may be the culprit.....it's common with old motherboards.Inspect the capacitors on your board(if you know a capacitor from a coil) for bulginess or cracks on the top.
