Is it a problem with my PSU?
My rig:
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Socket 939(Venice Core)
MSI-RS480M2 motherboard with onboard ATi Radeon Xpress 200G
XFX 8600GT XXX edition
Samsung Samtron 55V 15-inch CRT
Moser Baer DH-20A1P
Samsung Combo drive SM-352B
Vintron Keyboard
Logitech mouse
Sony FDD
Techcom 350W power supply
My problem is, when I'm playing a game, usually the resource hungry ones, after about half an hour or 45 mins, the system hangs and there is no way to come out of it, except for a hardboot. I had planned to buy a 500W power supply in case my system didn't boot when I installed the gfx card. Since it works just fine on no load and on linux with compiz-fusion running, I dropped the idea. The graphics card was installed following the step-by-step instructions given in the manual. So, my onboard ATi was disabled before inserting the card.
One more doubt is, what will happend to the PSU or the other components in case I continue using the same PSU? Though, I have a fair chance that I'll change the PSU, I just want to know. BTW, no computer dealer is ready to take this PSU. So, what will I do with this?

Re: Is it a problem with my PSU?
How much might it cost? I need to buy the PSU and a couple of games like Crysis(I know it runs at low settings, I don't care ) and COD 4

Re: Is it a problem with my PSU?
@topgear-I'll be moving to quadcore in around 2 years time. So, I might need a 1KW PSU
BTW, why doesn't the card refuse to work @ 350W though that's the min. required?

It actually gets enough load for small tasks, but as your calculations increase (during games, rendering and such), it fails to acquire additional power (Which even the commanding CPU starts demanding) and panics. This is just my interpretation though.

Re: Is it a problem with my PSU?
^^That's because powering the GFX with another PSU does not decrease the power consumption on the 12V rails.

Re: Is it a problem with my PSU?
Hey guys, need help again. I bought 450W PSU, but the problem still exists. COD 4 hangs while playing. One thing I observed is the CPU temperature goes high as 62 C. Is it because of that?

Re: Is it a problem with my PSU?
@phreakOut, I am also facing similar problem... My rig has C2D E4400, XFX n650i Ultra, Leadtek 7600GS gfx, and 2 GB RAM with 500W Zebronics normal SMPS...
Also, once it hangs during a game, the computer continues to crash even when doing regular stuff (sometimes even when logging it)... Only after leaving it for a few days without usage does it get back to normal... Are you facing similar problem too?

Re: Is it a problem with my PSU?
@zyberboy-My cabinet is open from the day I installed my gfx card. That's not even a month back.
@sakumar-My problem is, if it hangs, that's it. Hardboot is the solution. Once I reboot, there is no problem with other applications.

Re: Is it a problem with my PSU?
Guys u need to update every possible driver and also BIOS if the newer version is available!
This is the common problem that occurs most of the time and most of them are sorted out by the drivers update!

Re: Is it a problem with my PSU?
I've updated my BIOS and the driver is the one which I got with Digit DVD. It's 163.xx version. Downloading 169 now.
