Regarding your hardware configuration, XP will easily install as I have the same configuration.
This may happen with the corrupt partition table or any lose contact.
Tight all the connection then use the following if your hard disk is not conatin any important data.
First, break the partition using any free partition software. I recomends the use of Seagate Disk Manager, Fdisk etc. If you are regualr reader of digit, then you should find some partition software on Digit Cd December 2006, its ultimate boot cd (UBCD). Use any one you like.
Then install Windows XP. I sure that this time it will installed properly.
