you can consider ST3250310AS its a 250GB single platter 7200.10. Its half the thickness of a normal hard drive and blazing fast...like raptors

You can try Western Digital Caviar SE 16 WD7500AAKS (750GB).

750GB
16MB cache
7200rpm
95MB/s datarate. (on par with 10k rpm drives)
Perpendicular recording
$150

yes adding two [IDENTICAL] discs in raid 0 will nearly double the performance.

RAID 0 means the data is divided into two parts and is written to two HDD's at the same time.

RAID 0 implements a striped disk array, the data is broken down into blocks and each block is written to a separate disk drive
I/O performance is greatly improved by spreading the I/O load across many channels and drives

you can get lot more info @ raid.edu "http://www.acnc.com/04_01_00.html"

But remember, to use RAID, both the harddrives should be same. Should have same specs.

Note: This will not increase the performance of games. It only increases copy/paste or any operations that depend a lot on HDD performance.

I think that should work in raid 0.
But not sure.

I would say "Go for the same one". You will not see breathtaking improvement with 8meg of extra cache. But it's worthy to use RAID 0.
