In the TCP/IP settings change the IP adresses to automatic / Assigned by DHCP
make sure dhcp server service is running..and let vista acquire ip adresses automatically..
I've seen some updated vista modem drivers on bsnl site..check whether your modem has one or not ?
And lastly...if you have modem that saves settings in its flash rom then you need to change the server address to 192.168.1.
2 for usb against 192.168.1.
