Strange shutdown Problem!!!
Guys I'm having a strange problem lately whose cause I'm not able to trace. I have the follwing config-intel dg965ry mobo,core e6400,trans 1 gb ddr2 533, 250 gb sata2, vista ultimate.
The problem is that the pc boots normally but after working for a few min the system shuts down without any warning, but the power led still remains on for some time. Also, the pc does not start for a few min even after the power on button is pressed, so i have to wait for 10 min before it starts again. I thought it was a overheating issue so i checked the connections, updated the bios and other drivers , still the problem continued.I tried to get the mobo replaced through intel but it returned after a few days with "no defect found " and the problem continued.
I have checked all the temperatures with intel idu but all are normal. So,now I'm really at my wits end so pleaseeeeeee help me.

Re: Strange shutdown Problem!!!
was it working fine in past. Are you sure you don't have any compatibility issue.
If yes, than try these:
1) Clean processor fan
2) check SMPS, cabinet and processor fan. They must run smoothly without any noise.
3) Try changing SMPS.
4) Remove all PCI and external devices like....Graphics card (if you have any)...printer, Tv tuner card digital camera
The most possible cause is overheating and SMPS problem.

Re: Strange shutdown Problem!!!
If the led remains on for a while, have a slight feeling that apart from smps and temperatures, the processor might be at fault. the cpu is initiating the power trip.
Please tell the results.

Re: Strange shutdown Problem!!!
Well, I tried all the cleaning and rejoining stuff but it did not work. It either has to be the smps or the cpu but i still have the feeling its mobo problem bcoz of the typical symptoms. Also, the smps maybe ruled out coz i tried one of my friends smps too.
Is there any utility by which I can check that the cpu or mobo is faulty?
One more thing, even if the smps is faulty(Zebronics) how should i relate the above problem to get it replaced through the service centre?
Also, I did like to mention that when the pc shutsdown automatically, it tries to restart again but fails after restarting 2-3 times and when it shuts down for the last time it does not start again till a few minutes evn when the power button is pressed.

@ digster
If possible try to buy a atleast 400-450 true power smps.
Like zebronics platinum series or cooler master, VIP, corsair etc.

Re: Strange shutdown Problem!!!
^^ But Arctic Silver is the best one . Arctic silver retails around Rs. 350-450 Bucks.
No cheap paste ie those retails at Rs.20-30 can even come close to arctic silver.
Also cooler master is another good one. But I don't know their prices.

Re: Strange shutdown Problem!!!
Dude i think its your cabinet, is it small one?
If no then open it from all sides and see if the temp falls & possibly use an external fan like table fan and see for temp!
