Re: Suggest a good 17" TFT
Let me know about the other things needed for you to buy like:
* Purpose (Animation/Apps/Games/General)
* Normal (4:3) / Widescreen (16:9)
* Price Range
* Interface Type - (Analog / Digital)
* Any other specific requirement like USB ports, camera, etc
Quote:
If you didn't know what the Analog/Digital Inteface means:
Analog – 15pin D-Sub (Good old interface which you have connected ur CRT for years)
Digital – DVI-D/HDMI with HDCP
|
This will help you to get a better monitor based on your requirements.

Re: Suggest a good 17" TFT
guys im not hijacking the thread but my uncle has to use a PC in his store for cataloging and has been using a 15" CRT as a monitor. I advised him on a 14" - 15" LCD for his eyes and he agreed.
Can you advise me the cheapest LCD solution available? i dont need it to be good. Simple data entry purpose.. Dont need really branded ones like dell, aoc, viewsonic if cost can be reduced by buying a local one...
any ideas?

Re: Suggest a good 17" TFT
Ok here is the deal with the Aspect Ratios.
If it is widescreen, you get a resolution of 1440x900 but Price is More (worth it)
Else if it is Normal 4:3, you get a resolution of 1280x1024 & Price is Less.
So choose which ever you think is best. Here are the monitors you can opt for:
Specs read as Response Time, Brightness, Contrast Ratio, Native Resolution, Input Type
--------------------------
Normal Aspect Ratio (4:3)
--------------------------
* Dell UltraSharpTM 1708FP 17" Flat Panel LCD Monitor
-> 5ms, 300cd/m2, 800:1, 1280 x 1024 @ 60 Hz, Analog & DVI (HDCP)
-> Has 4 USB 2.0 high speed ports
PRICE: Rs 10,674 (inclusive of all Taxes but excluding STATEwise VAT)
LINK: http://www1.ap.dell.com/content/products/compare.aspx/17lcd?c=in&cs=inbsd1&l=en&s=bsd
* Viewsonic Monitors
>>VA703b (Black)
>>VA703m (Black & Has Inbuilt speakers)
-> 8ms, 300cd/m2, 700:1, 1280x1024, Analog
LINK: http://ap.viewsonic.com/in/products/lcd/
PRICE: Would be around 8500 - 10000
* Samsung SyncMaster 740N (Silver Color)
-> 8ms, 300 cd/m², 700:1, 1280x1024, Analog
PRICE: Rs. 9150
LINK: http://www.samsung.com/in/products/monitors/tftlcdmonitors/740n.asp?page=Specifications
* Samsung SyncMaster 732N Plus (Black Color)
-> 5ms, 300 cd/m², 700:1, 1280x1024, Analog
PRICE: Rs. 9500
LINK: http://www.samsung.com/in/products/monitors/tftlcdmonitors/732nplus.asp?page=Specifications
* Acer AL1716 Series (Silver)
-> 5ms, 300 cd/m², 800:1, 1280x1024 @ 75Hz, Analog or Dual Input
PRICE: Would be around 8000 - 9000
LINK: http://www.acer.co.in/products/product_explore_view.asp?pid=80&model=Acer%20AL171 6%20Series&cid=6
----------------------------------------
Widescreen Aspect Ratio (16:9 OR 16:10)
----------------------------------------
* Viewsonic VA1703w (Silver Color)
* Viewsonic VA1703wb (Black Color)
-> 8ms, 250cd/m2, 500:1, 1440 x 900, Analog
PRICE: Would be around 8500 - 10000

* SyncMaster 740NW (Black Color)
-> 8ms, 250cd/m2, 500:1, 1280x720, Analog
PRICE: Rs. 9000-10000
LINK: http://www.samsung.com/in/products/monitors/tftlcdmonitors/740nw.asp?page=Specifications
If I were to buy a 17" LCD monitor, I would look out for the following:
-> Lesser Response Time, Max Brightness, High Contrast Ratio, Analog & Digital Input.
-> Going for Widescreen if neccessary & any other extras like USB ports
My Recommendation would be the following:
For Normal Aspect Ratio ->>> Dell UltraSharpTM 1708FP
For Widescreen ->>> Viewsonic VA1703wb
Those are my recommendations, but Choose whichever fits in your budget.

If you want to go for cheap 15" LCD ones, better go to the street/shop where you buy comp. hardware from
& ask him for the cheapest available. (Actually, I don't remember the Brand names or the prices. Sorry man.)
If you want some known brands, here is the price list
L.G 15" - 7650
Samsung 15" 540N - 7900
ViewSonic 15" - 7680
ACER 15" - 7100
HP 15" - 10100
If money is really an issue, go in for 2nd hand ones. Why don't you see the Bazaar Section in the Digit Forums ?

I am thinking about Viewsonic VA1703wb (Black Color) TFT.As i think widescreen is better for movies & we get more viewing surface than the Normal one
if more featurs like intergrated web cam or USB ports available in Viewsonic ?didn't find in viewsonic site.
I will buy it next month.guys suggest me more..

Re: Suggest a good 17" TFT
Glad to know you picked a good one.
Check out the review for this monitor :
http://www.techtree.com/India/Reviews/Viewsonic_VA1703wb/551-83387-630-1.html
I also saw the 19" Viewsonic ones. They are also available for abt Rs. 400-600 more. Have a look @ them.
Also if you wanted some extras with the monitor, here is 1 candidate for that.
ViewSonic VX1945wm 19" Widescreen LCD Monitor with Integrated iPod Dock
http://ap.viewsonic.com/in/products/productspecs.php?id=297
Main Extras: Analog & Digital interface, iPod dock, 8-in-1 card reader, microphone, headphone jack, 3 USB port for joystick/game control, USB port for keyboard/mouse ... isn't that enough ???
Also response time is 5ms, 700:1 CR.
But it comes at a hefty Rs. 2000-3000 more.
Just letting you know. Not asking you to buy though.
Always go through some reviews done on the Monitor or user comments before you buy it.
You can check newegg.com / amazon.com for the User comments.
Google up for Reviews on the monitor.

wht the use of DVI-D port. i think Grafix card needed for that port support.

hmm.. specially for games and viewing movies.???.right
1.better go for a 19" wide lcd monitor
2.lower response time : 5ms.
3.DVI
Q:
"DVI-D". What is it for?
A:
Those flat screen LCD monitors are showing up on desks everywhere. They save space, have sharper image quality, and look modern.
The old CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) monitor is an analog device. That means that your graphics card must convert the computer's digital signal into a signal that the CRT monitor can understand. Of course, there's always something lost in the process.
The LCD monitor is a digital device. If you use the DVI connection there'll be no loss of image quality or signal corruption. That is why you get a crisper image.
Here's the snag: if your graphics card doesn't have a DVI connector then you're stuck using the old VGA connection. Your LCD monitor should have a VGA connector as well, but keep in mind that you'll be getting an analog signal so it won't be as clean as purely digital. It may be worth your while to get a new graphics card with either DVI-D (digital only) or DVI-I (digital or analog with adapter) connectors so you can get the most out of your LCD monitor.

Re: Suggest a good 17" TFT
^^thanks for reply.it gives new information.
But i think 17" suits me more.it will take less space.& for gaming its suits more as total space is less i can get suitable resolution for games.I don't have plan to buy grafix card in near future. & va 1703wb model have simplicity & it has good reviews on newegg site.so its my choice.
& VX 1932WM model has some problems.may be few defective products.i viewed thread .. Problem with Viewsonic VX1932wm LCD
