Whats happening with my Hard disk?

grrr guys i lost 40 gb yesterday and 40 gb of data today.One of my drive is showing "Do you want to format it now"?How can i access my data now?
I have seagate 200 gb hdd.I dont want to lose the data.Any solutions?Is there something wrong with my sata hard disk?Or is it becoz of data cable?

try to read ur hard disk on other system.and post the result.

it has 6 drives and i can access 5 of them.But its showing "Do you want to format it now on 1 drive"

Between, is that NTFS partition, and do you have more than one OS installed???

It was fat32.And i have only one OS i.e XP.Whenever i click on that drive it takes time and then shows me the messagebox "do u want to format it now"?Do you think its possible to recover data?

There are many softwares on that site.Which one to use?

hey puri hardisk ka backup le lo bhai.. kya pata kal ho na ho..
meri hard disk ke sath aisa hi hua tha...

wohi kar raha hu dimaag ki dahi ho gayi hai.waise imp data 80 gb wali mein shift kar raha hu.Kal dvd's mein backup lena parega.Aur parso yeh HDD bech dunga. I think ismein gande sectors hai.

sometimes it happens when u fiddle with HDD cable.

Just format that partition after recovering data and use seatTools (if ur HDD is Seagate) to roll out self drive test(SDT) to see if its is in good condition.

Yes i changed the data cable and ports becoz my OS was slowing down.But i changed the data cable of my 80gb hdd.Phir 200gb wali ko kya problem hui and jab window chali toh ek drive corrupt ho gayi.Kal bhi yehi hua tha.Is there something wrong with my hard disk?Becoz i will sell it.Mujhe bharosa nahi hai ispe.

Previously that drive was FAT32 but now it is NTFS who did it?Same thing happened with the other drive yesterday.

^arre throw it instead of selling it bugger.Matlab Indian mentality nahi jayegi huh?Kharab hai to change karve lai bhai kisi aur to sell karega to wo paresan hoga.

It seems like a virus problem to me.Download avast home edition(its free),update it,and do a full boot time scanning.

Is it sata or ide?Try reconnecting your cables.
You should not make more than 4 partitions in any hard disk IMO as logical partitions are just not as reliable as primary partition.

if nothing works out then quick format you partition and recover data with some data recovery tool like free undeleter(duh! it is free).

And i have asked for an external hard disk.And the price of 500GB Western Digital is Rs.6800.Is this price ok?

bhai 2600 ki li thi.26 rs ki nahi.Replace bhi pata nahi karenge ke nahi. Seagate s**** yeh dusri baar mere saath khilwaad hua hai.

Well I honly trust Western digital(hema malini ishtlye).

But my system always checks one of my drives "chkdsk" i mean everytime why is it?It shows something like one of your drive is NTFS and needs to be checked for consistency.

windows problem buddy.try running chkdsk in ternimal ooops i mean run(start--->run).But I am pretty sure this problem has no solution afaik.

yaar window dobara daalne par bhi yehi problem hai.Meri dusri hard disk first class chal rahi hai.Aur uski data cables maine change ki thi.Phir 200 gb wali ko kya problem ho rahi hai.

gaurav this is not any hard disk problem its a fugging windows problem.
Search for some scanning tool for seagate hard disks(I forget the exact name its seatool or something) to check for bad sectors and overall health of your hdd.

There is no problem in my window.Becoz window is installed in my 80gb hard disk.And its running fine.And abhi 2 baar phirse meri 200gb beech mein ruk gayi and its not showing any drives.I have checked the data cable.Problem is in this hard disk.
