8800GT in the house ....
Finally got one ... and what can i say .. besides WOW ... and this actually makes a hell lot more sense than the MS BS ... anyway ..
Had to shell out 13.8k's for the card .. XFX 512 MB Alpha Dog Edition ... and guess what already running at 700/1750/1900 out of the box .. and considering the kind of oc people are getting on this card , mine is such noobish ... i tested the core over 750 MHz , didn't have guts to go further .. for now i'm more than satisfied with the performance .. which would be like :
3DMark06 : 12302 ( ORB ) (varies a bit , darn driver )
And as for ingame performance ... well .. u know about the only game i'm concerned right now .. well .. running at 1280*1024 , very high , 16x AF etc. etc .. no motion blur ... and r_TexturesStreaming set to 0 ... lowest fps i saw was around ~27 .. avg. FPS 33-34 .. here are some screenies :
And this is from the ingame benchmark :
Code:
Running GPU benchmark 1
Results will depend on current system settings
Press any key to continue . . .
Running...
==============================================================
TimeDemo Play Started , (Total Frames: 2000, Recorded Time: 111.86s)
!TimeDemo Run 0 Finished.
Play Time: 62.43s, Average FPS: 32.04
Min FPS: 23.31 at frame 137, Max FPS: 41.26 at frame 977
Average Tri/Sec: -21395646, Tri/Frame: -667837
Recorded/Played Tris ratio: -1.37
!TimeDemo Run 1 Finished.
Play Time: 57.72s, Average FPS: 34.65
Min FPS: 23.31 at frame 137, Max FPS: 42.73 at frame 64
Average Tri/Sec: -22979686, Tri/Frame: -663175
Recorded/Played Tris ratio: -1.38
TimeDemo Play Ended, (2 Runs Performed)
==============================================================
Press any key to continue . . .
And the funny part it .. people are actually swearing that the newer drivers are actually better .. now only if nhancer and rivatuner didn't have any problem with it ... coz i'm stuck to 169.04 right now ... 17x.xx anyone ??
Oh btw .. fan speed set to 80% from default 30% ... and i hardly hear any sound (good cabby , or rather noisy ceiling fan ) .. load temps with oc <70c (this is due to the cabby ) ...
Will update with pics later ... now i'm off to drooling

Re: 8800GT in the house ....
8800 is really bang for buck. Just read the detailed review at anandtech. This card beats 8800 GTS hands down.
Darn my 6k budget so had to settle for 8600 GT but its still rox for all the RTS and Car games I play

Re: 8800GT in the house ....
yeah, bang for the buck ..
but you still need to be rich to have one
still 13.4 k makes me think twice
but id better go for ATi 3850 for 179 $.. underclocked version of 2900 XT with a narrower bus but who cares....
best bang for buck till date... closest competitor is 8600 GTS which is thrashed by the card :-P
will be good dx 10.1 solution until the 9 series of nvidia arrives

Re: 8800GT in the house ....
I am surely getting a ATI Card for next upgrade as AMD seems to have hit the sweet spot 3800 series and nVidia cant compete it in terms of Cost to Performance ratio.
GeForce 9x better be good as ATI's big ones sure gonna rock cost wise
[ATi seriously needs to concentrate on India alot more]

Re: 8800GT in the house ....
.. after loads of testing , i finally have settled for 650/1650/1900 on the card , temps are well under 70c with fan set to 75% ... and fps in Crysis is still roughly the same .. maybe ~1 fps diff ...

I told u homei!
Besides nVidia is also preparing to launch the 128 shader version of 8800 GTS...which is supposed to be somewhat better than 8800 GT and still the 256 MB 8800 GT is in the line which should come in some soft price!

Re: 8800GT in the house ....

WTF! I recently got Gears of War and the thing frames on my 7900GT. Now this is the only game that has actually got me really interested and I can't play it. Anyway, I was thinking, is it worth it buying this card and plugging it into a Pentium 4 3Ghz + 915GAV + 1GB DDR400 setup?
Also, what would I get if I sell my 7900GT? 4k?

Re: 8800GT in the house ....
^^ Its not the GPU .. UE3.0 based games "really" require a dual core cpu ... i ran Gear of War maxed out at 1280*1024 on my 7950GT with the same config as in my sig ...
BTW ... just for ur info , i run Gears of War maxed out at 1280*1024 , 8x CSAA under XP .. 45+ fps .. so even on your config , u should see some noticeable improvement .. but likewise .. 7900GT should easily handle UE3.0 maxed out .. i'd prefer u to get a dual core cpu first ..

Re: 8800GT in the house ....
Ah thanks. Is that 6750 thingie good enough for most purposes? (just kidding, I know it is)
Btw, I run gears of war on 1600*900 or something. It gives me the same framerates as 1024*768 so I say what the hell! Also, I need to play at high resolutions cause lower resolutions look crappy on the 24" monitor you see...

Re: 8800GT in the house ....
@Deathvirus do u use enhancer.
I compared the performance of Gears Of War X360 with PC and i found that during explosions Gears Of War X360 slows down to about 17 FPS where as this is not the case with GOW PC.I also found pc graphics a bit superior.

Re: 8800GT in the house ....
Update: I guess it's not the GPU after all! I thought what the heck, let's try this game on full resolution (1920*1200) with full settings just to see how it looks. What the heck, almost no framerate difference. It does choke during intense scenes but still playable. I wonder what a C2D will do for me (I also wonder what my playing standards are... I hope I'm not getting like 8fps or something)
Also, UE3.0 is the new Unreal engine I take it? One more thing, what about Crysis? Should I even attempt to try that?
Okay one last question:
If I get the 6750 or the 6650 I will have to get one of those G33 chipset motherboards cause of the 1333Mhz bus speed right? Which one is the cheapest but most reliable of the lot? I'm not looking to overclock anything. What about this one: XFX 650i-Ultra NVIDIA nForce 650i Ultra 1333 FSB Rs.4900

Re: 8800GT in the house ....
^^ E6750 and 650i ... or if u don't plan to OC .. then X2 6000+ and M2N SLi ,, either way.. ... dual core is a must now-a-days ... even X2 4000+ makes a huge diff ..

Yeah , i force CSAA using nHancer ... and the lowest fps i've seen till now on GoW was around 35 ..

Yeah .. UE3.0 -> Unreal Engine 3.0 ... quite a few games use it now .. and u should see similar performance in almost all of the titles .. Bioshock , MoH Airborne , Gears of War et.c etc. ..
And about Crysis ... with a single core , u'll have to sacrifice a lot on the physics. .. turn it to low , and u should suffer from massive slowdowns during fights or explosions .. btw ... even a 8800GTX would struggle running the game at 1920*1200 , high .. so u'll have to mess with the settings a lot to find a good one for ur config ..
WEI ??
