pc is hanging !! please help

i have an amd Athlon 64 processor (2800+) which is running at 1800 Ghz
i have a 1 GB of ram and 80 GB IDE drive having 4 partitions. the pc has
NVIDIA GeForce MX 4000 (120 MB) graphics and i am running windows xp.
recently my pc has become very slow and hangs intermittently when starting a new applications
or switching from one apllication to another.
if i am playing a song its stops completely untill the new application like IE comes up.
on running the Dx diagnostics there were no errors reported. also i have updated the latest drivers
and patches for the graphics card.
the hard disc health is shown as 59% on running HDD Life pro software.

i need to know whether my graphics card has crashed, because i am also not able to play many of my games
as it does not support open GL or d3d

1. Please make sure ur PC has virus threats.. coz few viruses.. will slow down system.

2. HDD is not the culprit

3. Try reinstalling the Media Player.

4. Try reinstalling the OS if everything fails

i have tried all these options but even after reinstalling the OS the problem returns after one or two days

are u using any theme packs like "Vista Transformation Pack" or "Vista Customization Pack" ?

no none of these. also whenever starting any new application the pc usage shoots to 100%.

please remove the GPU and connect to onboard graphics for a moment and see if it works fine!

Boot in safe mode and post the result.
