Default Pc upgrade

My friend wants to upgrade his motherboard, processor and ram. He currently has a p3, 865 mobo and 256 mb ram.
His budget for the motherboard+processor and ram is 10,000. He will use the pc for some gaming and multimedia stuff. Please don't suggest a graphics card. He won't buy it.
One more question is that. Should he go for amd or intel? Which will perform better at this budget? Thanks.

Any other suggestions? Isn't 1GB RAM enough? And please post the prices of the components.

Welcome to the forum.
But first of all you should hav looked at and searched the forum first..as the forum is flooded with the same kind of posts.

Secondly You shouls not hijack others thread like these..posting in forum is free so open your own thread to ask questions..

Thirdly your RAM price is extorbitantly high..4000 for 1gb 800Mhz is way too high (Unless you opt for performance rams).

as far as DX 10 cards go..8600gt seems only viable option

Actually the model u have suggested is better than what i have suggested (with DVI & HDMI & Better Graphics) ,but it is not yet available in India .the model i have suggested is http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en-us/...t.php?S_ID=307.the only downside of these motherboards are lack of dual channel ram...but for 3.2k they offering Penryn support with a very good IGP....

The problem is that Biostar may not be available here. Any other popular brand of motherboard?

Btw which is better? E4500 or 5600+?
