Convincing Dad!
Hey, Digitianz
For such a Subject the body part I too big however I have tried to shorten it up
Friends I know it sound different however I need help or say some tips to convince my father to get me a new C.P.U (JUST THE DUBBA). My father got me a IBM PC about 6 Years ago which priced about Rs.80, 000/-. Now the P.C has become useless as it can not even perform the simple jobs. It has the following configuration:-
Intel Pentium 4- 1.7GHz
IBM 845GV Motherboard
40GB Maxtor Hard Drive (Making Hell of Noise)
128Mb RAM (I later added 512mb)
I have myself added to it 512Mb RAM, TV Tuner Card, LG-DVD Writer and a CD Writer which I think was my biggest mistake. Now is not even giving the display as the IBM person who got the 512Mb RAM broke the pins through which we connect the monitor to the P.C.
Later then my dad dropped the computer at the IBM shop and after 2 months the IBM personals got it soldered but it still didn’t gave the display, then they added a PCI VGA card to it of 1Mb (What a joke) and still there is no display.
Now I need some help from you guys so that I can convince my dad to get me a new C.P.U but my budget would be Rs.15, 000 or even less only i have a spare DVD Writer and need to buy A Processor , A Motherboard ,RAM and A Hard Drive + A Cabinet.
My Friend owns a decent computer with following configuration which I would prefer:-
AMD Athlon X2 AM2 processor 3800+
ASUS Motherboard M2N-MX
1.5GB RAM
80 GB Hard Drive
With this configuration he plays Need for Speed Carbon and runs Vista Ultimate without hick ups or any kind of problems. Please introduce me to better configuration if possible in this budget and at this point I would go for only 1 GB of RAM.
Please name some courses or languages which I should learn (I’m 16 years old) as I have a full 1 spare month
Don’t forget get to give some tips to convince my DAD.
Note:-Please do not give links to other page of the forum as I get confused.
Thanks in advance and would be waiting for suggestions

Re: Convincing Dad!
The motherboard harryneopotter gave is by far the best low-mid end motherboard with best onboard display and it also have the DVi port on it.
Check the price if it fits in ur budget otherwise there's also a nVidia 7150 chipset based mobo also. go for that!

You should be taking consumer action against IBM for deficiency of service. That will go a long way in helping you get a new pc

Re: Convincing Dad!
If you are planning to add a nVidia gfx Card use nForce based Chipset. If you are planning for a ATI HD series go for AMD 690 based chipset.
M2N MX has PCI E @ 8x so instead of that buy M2N MX-SE which has 16x PCI E and will cost like Rs.300 more =]

No they are not same!
X1250 is much better than 6150.....infact nVidia has launched 7150 to compare with ATi 690 chipset!

That's EXACTLY what I was thinking They are usually VERY good at keeping the customers happy TAKE A LOOKIt probably didn't help matters with the father dropping the damn thing in the IBM repair centre!!!
(the article linked is quite old though , still their principles should be the same!!!)

Re: Convincing Dad!
Dear friends my father has agreed to get me a new C.P.U. I would be thankful if you give me the best and a future proof advice
I as per your advice am going to get a computer with following configuration:-
AMD athlon x2 4000+
1 GB ram
160 GB hard disk drive
Now I am confused that which motherboard I should buy either ASUS M2A VM or M2N MX. I would after some month buy a new graphics card (8600) and another GB ram. Until I buy new materials I want a mobo which will run newer games and run vista premium smoothly. Another thing is a NVIDIA card compatible with ASUS M2A VM and M2N MX. If not plz name some good ATI GFX cards with their details and price.
Note: - I can’t increase my budget more than m2a vm and if there is a mobo or any other part better than the mentioned having similar price plz mention with exact price and detail. Please don’t mention any thing other which is too hoo haaa as I don’t have extreme computer knowledge like you.
Thank you in advance for your advice
I was talkin of the integrated memory of m2a vm and m2n mx. I give you a example pic also

Re: Convincing Dad!
i've used the Asus M2N-MX with the X2 3800+.was able to oc the 3800+ to 2.75GHz stable.beyond that was not possible as mobo has FSB holes(reached 2.8GHz but it wasnt too stable.)
didnt use the onboard gfx as i had a 6600LE,but the onboard gfx sud be good enuf for light gaming.

M2A-VM is a better than M2N-MX because it has 690 Chipset and yes it will also support ur nVidia card too!

Re: Convincing Dad!
dear .... neither of these boards have onboard grfx memory .... the memory u r talking about is the amount of graphics memory which is being shared from ur RAM .....u can change amount of grfx memory from BIOS SETUP. as far as i knw M2N MX can share upto 128/256 MB from system RAM ... where as M2A VM can share upto 1 GB of RAM from system RAM (which is certainly nt recommended) as grfx memory. if have 1 GB RAM and share 128 for grfx from it .. then Grfx memory will show 128 MB ... and system RAM becoms 896 MB (1024-128). Hope u got it now.

Re: Convincing Dad!
Yeah but there are several low end graphics card which also shows onboard 1 GB memery...but they are actually shared memory.
And yes that is your onboard graphics memory which u have shown in pic.
Some of the motherboards can go upto 1 GB in BIOS but that doesn't mean they can play CRISIS. Its SHARED buddy!
U should have dedicated GPU to play games and to run VISTA....ultimate.

Re: Convincing Dad!
yes my Nvidia Geforce 7300GS has a technology called "TURBOCACHE" and it means that it uses upto 512MB of RAM if needed BUT you MUST have at LEAST 1GB of system ram to start with- As I have 2GB(DDRII) of system ram anyway, then It's not an issue I need worry about!!

Re: Convincing Dad!
@ Captain Neo
u dnt need 2 time n again compare ur config vid ur frndz.
the Asus M2A-VM is a gud choice, it has HD video, even though therz no HDMI port (u really dnt plan 2 use it, eh?)
i'll even suggest the
GIGABYTE GA-M68SM-S2 AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 7025 ATX AMD Motherboard.
bcuz its cheaper,
it has the nvidia 7000 gfx chipset,
its ATX...big size, better airflow..
has a DVI port, (4 LCDz)
has a firewire port (4 digicams n stuff)
other option is
ASUS M2N-VM DVI AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 7050PV Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
and dont 4get 2 ask for a Processor + Mobo Combo to get best prices in AMD.
