Motherboard Warranty/Replacement Confusion
I have a Intel D915GAV motherboard couppled with a P4 520 (2.8GHz HT ). It has two more months of warranty. Recently the board has gone bad and my vendor has taken it to service. I think he will inform about the status tomorrow.Initially he said it was a northbridge/southbridge problem. But looking at the state of the mobo , I dont think its repairable. I want to know how long will they take to give the update on my mobo. My vendor said they will take 15 to 30 days to repair it, But I think he is lying, Later he said I will need to upgrade my CPU cause the motherboard is not available anymore and the new ones are incompatible with P4, which again is a lie, cause I see that there are other C2D boards which support P4.
My question .. When can I expect my old or the new mobo back i.e., time taken by intel to trouble shoot the mobo and update me with their findings..

Re: Motherboard Warranty/Replacement Confusion
I hope he has given you some sort of a service invoice stating the nature of the complaint and the date. Then time will not be a problem

^^^
He should have received an email acknowledgement from Intel by now, IF he had sent to Intel.

Update..
here is the update from my vendor.
Quote:
1.Your board is 915 GAV operating at 533 MHz FSB which as you know is a technology 2-1/2 years back. The board has gone for repair. At best you might get a board operating at
800 Mhz which is today's earliest bus speed technology since you have a quad-core at 1333 MHz.But the problem would be the processor will not be compatible. Please note that intel doesn't believe in the phenomenon of repair, they only replace.
2.Today you no more have P1V MACHINE.What you get is dual –core or core-to-duo.
Ideally you have to upgrade your memory,M/B and the processor on a buy back of your existing processor and M/B.Listed below is a series of possibilities.
The foll is today's pricing on the components:
INTEL CORE-2-DUO 2 GHZ---------6,050/-+VAT(2 MB CACHE AND 800 FSB)
2. 3 GHZ---------7,900/-+VAT
2.66GHZ---------9,100/-+VAT
Corresponding M/B INTEL 945 GCNL----------4,100/-+VAT
INTEL 945 DDR2----------4,900/-+VAT
CORRESPONDING MEMORY 512 MB DDR2------1,325/-+VAT
1 GB DDR2-------1,575/-+VAT
We will buy back your existing processor,M/B and memory based on a depreciation value from the past 2-1/2 years and today's market standings which would be a value of 2,900/-+VAT.The same can be adjusted on the bill made out to you.We don't see any other feasible solution other than this.
Please verify and confirm. The above includes freight, installation and forwarding charges.

Re: Motherboard Warranty/Replacement Confusion
Man, this is plain cheating by your vendor. If your motherboard is under warranty, then it should be fixed by Intel, what ever the cost is. Just mail the same to Intel and get their side of story.

Re: Motherboard Warranty/Replacement Confusion
Replacing with a suitable board is Intel's headache. You should talk to them, if he tries some 420 they will blacklist him

first of all yu hav a 800mhz fsb procy...not a 533mhz one..
secondly all current boards support your processor
thirdly the price given by your dealer is way over the mark..
the c2d he offerred is just an e4500 @ 2ghz (mind the fsb) which costs around 5.2k..the mobo prices are also higher than mark
so in short he is trying to rob you like hell...

Re: Motherboard Warranty/Replacement Confusion
ok update..
Intel was on leave for 1 week because of Diwali .. sigh .. 1 week
Called intel just now and spoke to a representative.. gave him my serial number and he said my warranty expired 2 weeks back but he said if I have the bill then that wont be a problem
Now my vendor says that my mobo was sent about 10 days back.. and intel says the mother board is not with them , I will be getting a tracking number from my vendor soon then I can check with intel myself...
Intel said it will take a minimum of 7 days to max of 15 days to get the mobo replaced.

U know your vendor might just be playing to see if you upgrade, he may not have given it if Intel says they don't have it. They keep track of their inventory.

Yea im making their life hell.. .. They thought I will fall for their bait (blah blah blah ) but didnot , I asked for the refference/complaint number which intel should have given before dispaching the mobo ... still no reply from that guy .. will call him again..
