dont go for a high end procy and a low end mobo.
I think C2D e6750 will be best.

Yes... I dont think it will be a good combination if you choose a quad core procy and a low end mobo. The performance will be low compared to a good combination of procy and mobo. GO for C2D e6750 and choose a good mobo. It will come under your budget.

intel combo
c2d 6750 8k
Asus P5B (965 chipset) 8k
or xfx 650i ultra 5k

Amd Athlon 64 X2 5200+ 6k
Asus M2N E 4k

If intel config takes 2hrs for a conversion job, amd config will take 20minutes more for the same,so if u can wait go for amd

Athlon 3000+ is nothing compared to procys like the C2D e6750. The e6750 beats the Athlon 6000+ which is priced the same. So you go for a e6750 procy and youll get very high performance difference.

When u are buying a high end processor then always choose INTEL ( As per the current scenario)

AMD is known for power saving whereas INTEL is for performance!
If u want a value for money system then buy AMD!

Since you are spending that much on processor then go for Intel E6750 which is good at stock speed and also has overclocking capabilities.
Also buy a 650i ultra or above motherboard for your system!

p5b is the best motherboard for c2d 6750 but its priced at 8k, xfx 650i will perform same as p5b, but u will need to add a heatsink in the south bridge and a fan above north bridge heat sink

why there is a need to add heatsink to chipsets? motherboard doesnt provide one such?

btw also need to powerup with 500w smps

will Powersafe silver 500w do any good?

The heat sink provide additional cooling to a chipset....it is always adviceable to add an extra or a better cooling solution for hardware.

if the chipset is going to get hot...why shouldnt the manufacturers themselves put one on it....atleast with factory settings it needs to provide basic cooling

There are cost for what ever product company is selling...thats why they have to price them as well.
To be easily available for all the streams starting from low-mid-high....they have manufacturing cost, transporting cost, whole seller etc costs are attached to it.
TO survive in the market company has to keep these factors in mind and also the end use. SO that their price will not effect the consumer...they have to use the material what ever is required.
U might have seen that all those high end motherboards come with copper heat sinks....they do have cost attached to the system and they are supposed to be peak overclocker and extreme out performer!
