want to know difference b/w Dual core and Core 2 Duo

I would like to know the difference between Dual Core and Core 2 Duo processor... This was the question asked in my interview...

Completely different architecture for both...thats the major difference apart from performance differences etc...

The Intel Dual cores were just two single cores clubbed together... just a marginal increase in performance...
the Core 2 Duos hav two proccys on a single die wich leads to better energy efficiency and better processing power..

Core Duo is the first generation dual core processors from intel.
Core 2 Duo is the second generation dual core processors from intel , which are more power efficient and tend to do more in less time.

Dual cores are two seperate cores with its own cache.
But core 2 duo is like two multithreaded proccys having a shared cache, thereby eliminating the need for two seperate copies of same data in each cache, when both cores are doin same job.
