Help me in upgrading my PC!

Hi. I've a budget of around 9000-10000 Rs and I want to upgrade my PC. I want to get a new Motherboard+ intel Core 2 duo and a 80GB/160GB sata 2nd HDD.I'm not into gaming and require a good PC ( performancewise) after upgrade! please tell me which motherboard/HDD should I buy?

And yeah one more thing...I asked my "computerwala" and he said that mecury motherboards are better than ASUS! is it true?

Mercury stands no where as compared to ASus

For him (ur "Computerwala").......probably YES
But for us and rest of the world......ABSOLUTELY no chance!

Its really hard to say that in this tight budget u are opting a C2D and MB and HDD but still

Gigabyte GA 945 GZM - S2 - 2975/-
WD 80 GB SATA 3 Gb/s - 1800/-


Within this budget i should say buy an AMD, which is very economic and value for money:

X2 4400+ - 3900/-
ASUS M2A-VM - 3500/-
WD 160 GB SATA 3Gb/s - 2300/-

This guy will be upgrading both his procy and mobo...so what abt the ram ??

Most probably he has the older ddr ram (i assume) so add another 1.5k for 1gb ddr2 in his budget !
