Optical drive not recogniged in explorer

I am using win_xp_sp2, i am the administrator after fresh installation
of OS i am not finding any CD/DVD writter in explorer & in device manager
i find yellow ''?'' mark against the drive. i have made every effort like uinstalling & reinstalling the particular device but same result(no effect)
kindly tell me other ways like registry editing and all by which my problem may be solve

does this problem start automatically??
because such isuue is result of incompatible driver.

Generaly it happens in reinstalation of OS that too not always
