Brand does not matter..but the new RAM should of of same type (DDR or DDR2)....and of same frequency.

no........
U cant run in dual channel mode..with different RAM memory. To run in dual channel mode, both RAM should be of same memory. In your case, the new RAM should be of 512 Mb, to run in dual channel mode.

Re: 1.5 GB ram?
go for another 512 MB ram of same frequency as well as latency.that will be more suitable for u rather than going for another 1 GB ( u ll be able to hv dual channel mode ) and its also cheaper .

Re: 1.5 GB ram?
Dual Channel just increase bandwidth.
Go for 1 GB.

increased bandwith will definitely make the system faster.
anyway, if he can sell his 512 module and buy 2*1 GB, tht will be the best .

Re: 1.5 GB ram?
yes. Sell the existing 512MB and get two 1GB sticks.
Yesterday, I bought 1gb ddr2 667Mhz Transcend ram (single stick) for Rs.1222 in Bangalore

Re: 1.5 GB ram?
Having two RAMs of different sizes in dual channel mode is not a nice idea.Even I used to have 1gb + 128mb RAM thinking that more RAM = better performance...to hell with dual channel, same latency etc. etc. etc. crap. But someone advised me to remove the 128mb stick.Followed his suggestion and noticed a nice boost in performance. .
If you do go in for dual channel, make sure you get both RAMs of same company and, preferably, same size too...

Re: 1.5 GB ram?
They MUST be of the same size ... my mobo manual clearly states it.

yes..agree with you.
To run in dual channel mode, size of both RAM should be same.
