How to check if my mother board is working or not?

I have an old PC which is not working now. When I took it to nearby computer repair shop he told me that the motherboard is gone bad. Is there anyway I can check whether my motherboard has gone dead. What can I do? I have purchased a new PC but my old PC is lying down at a place for a long time now. Please give me some of your valuable suggestions. Thanks! My motherboard is Mercury.

Well Try testing the board with other hardwares... Fit the processor / RAM / HDD / CD drive and see if it works then its fine if it doesnt then its not...

check the ram by memeory test.and check the hard disk,motherboard,power supply and processor with other system.
